Leveling lets you improve two ability scores and gives skill points to allocate. In one of these cases you have to hover over monsters and "con" them (right click) to see aggro ranges as you pick your way through a field. You can move with the keyboard (and toggle off the running, if need be), but it doesn't really fit into this sort of game IMO. I've got mupltiple characters lugging these around I simply can't afford to cure them at this time.Īn area of annoynace is that I've been to two places where you must move around very carefully, and it's frankly obnoxious. Additionally there are plenty of other effects like nauseated (reduces magical resistances, I think) and there may be more than 1 type of curse. It's a nasty debuff (you can heal people back to consciousness) that is either healed at the temple in town (it's pricey, though) or with 24 hours rest (given the amount of times I've lost people, this has been the superior option). If you get reduced to 0 or fewer hp you pick up a mortal wound. Many enemies at level 1 will do half your health on a hit, and you'll have getween a 45-55 chance to hit them (character creation is limited there'sz no chance to tweak starting stats or skills that does come in level up of course). The tacitcal considerations here are interesting. Axes can inflict a certain debuff that hinders offense and defense. Stunning (maces and polearms do "stun damage" as well as damage) causes your characters to tumble in the initiative order if the damage is high enough (it typically is, for enemies). All combat effects stack, so enemies who poison represent an extremely dangerous problem in the typically drawn out combats. Bleeding hurts (slashing weapons often cause bleed, but not all monsters are affected), as does poison. For some reason I seem to be unable to target things in the back row.Ĭombat is rife with status ailements that will drive you crazy. Extended reach weapons (polearms) don't seem to help this (they can hit the enemy front row fromn the back row). But people can only attack the 3 slots in front of them, meaning your flanking attackers will be shut out without moving them around.

The party grid in combat is actually 4x2 there is a summoner class and they can fill those slots. I do think the game is promising, though it has a few annoyances. I've often had to return to town to rest up after a single encounter. You will be spending a large amount of money resting to remove mortal wounds/regen life and mana, paying gate tolls (once you get to the first town, they make you pay them again every couple of days), and removing unpleasant status effects (at level 4, the only thing my cleric can do is heal wounds). I'm playing on "classic" difficulty, which appeared to be the middle of 3.
